Did you know? Fun facts about hearing

  • The middle ear contains the 3 smallest bones in the human body; the Malleus, Incus, and Stapes (Otherwise known as the hammer, anvil, and stirrup).

  • Your ears never rest, they continue to hear sounds around you, while you sleep.

  • Sound travels at around 1,130 feet per second (the true speed of sound does change in value). That’s about 1,232 km per hour!

  • Our ears not only enable us to hear but also help us to maintain our balance.

  • Dogs are able to hear sounds at much higher frequencies than we as humans are able to.

  • Exposure to high levels of noise, for extended periods of time, can cause irreversible hearing damage. For example, by sitting right in front of a speaker at a rock concert, your ears could start incurring permanent damage after only 7.5 minutes of exposure time.
